Ingredients
- Samai rice (Little Millet) – 1 cup
- Jaggery – 1 cup
- Moong dal – ¼ cup
- Cardamom powder – ½ tbsp
- Cashew nuts – 7 [Ghee Fried]
- Raisins[Kismiss] – 1 tbsp [Ghee Fried]
- Ghee – 3 tbsp
- Salt – a pinch
- Water –5 cups for open pan, 2 1/2 cups for pressure cooker
Preparation
- Heat 2 tbsp ghee in a pan roast cashews & raisins, keep it aside.
- Dry roast & Wash samai rice and moong dal.
- Heat 2 cups of water in a pan add moong dal & 1 tbsp ghee cook till soft.
- Then add 3 cups of water let it boil then add little millet cook till soft
- Heat jaggery with 1/2 cup water, let it melt for 3 min then drain to avoid impurities.
- Add jaggery syrup to the little millet mixture, let it boil for another 5 min.
- Finally add Cardamom powder, ghee & roasted nuts
- Then cut off heat & serve hot

Saamai sakkarai pongal ingredients
Wash samai millet 2 times
Soak for 10 min[optional]
Dry roast moong dal
Now its ready, wash
Add water, ghee cook till soft
Add ghee
Add cashews, raisins roast till light brown
Now its ready,cut off heat, keep it aside
Add samai rice cook till soft
Add jaggery syrup
Add pinch of salt
Let it cook for 5 to 10 min
Add cardamom powder
Add roasted cashews & raisins
Add ghee[1/4 cup]
Now its ready, cut off heat
