Ingredients

  • Urad dal – 1 cup
  • Green chilli - 1 [finely chopped]
  • Ginger – 1 tbsp [finely chopped]
  • Coconut – 1 tbsp [thinly chopped]
  • Curry leaves – 2 springs [finely chopped]
  • Peppercorns – 5 [crushed]
  • Rava – 1 tbsp
  • Salt to taste
  • Oil for deep frying

Preparation

  • Soak urad dal for 3 hours. Then drain water & grind well or coarsely grind
  • In a bowl add ground urad dal mixture, curry leaves, ginger, green chilli, coconut, salt, rava, & peppercorns mix well.
  • Then shape vadai & put hole in the middle then deep fry till crisp & golden brown.
  • Serve hot with chutney, sambar, curd rice or pongal.

Note

  • You can make thayir vadai, sambar vadai also.
  • Dont add too much water while grinding.
  • You can add rice flour [1 tbsp] instead of rava
  • For best crispy medhu vada sprinkle water & grind in wet grinder
  • You can add finely chopped onion
  • Use whole urad dal
  • After grinding mix well the batter
