Ingredients
- Toor dal – ½ cup
- Tomato – 1 [chopped]
- Dry red chilli – 1
- Green chilli – 1 [slit]
- Curry leaves -1 spring
- Coriander leaves – 1 spring
- Turmeric & red chilli powder- ½ tsp
- Cumin seeds – ½ tbsp
- Mustard seeds- ½ tbsp
- Jaggery [vellam] – ½ tbsp [grated]
- Asafetida a pinch
- Salt to taste
- Oil – 2 tbsp
- Water as needed
Method
- Wash toor dal. Heat pressure cooker add toor dal, water, turmeric powder & cover it, cook for 4 whistles.
- Heat oil in a pan add mustard seeds & let its splutter then add cumin seeds, green chilli, dry red chilli and curry leaves.
- Add tomato sauté till soft. Then add asafetida, turmeric & red chilli powder.
- Add boiled toor dal, salt mix well & let it boil. When boiling add jaggery then cut off heat, sprinkle coriander leaves then serve hot with rice.

Heat oil in a pan add mustard seed, cumin seeds, red, green chilli and curry leaves. then add asafetida
Add tomato, turmeric, red chilli powder saute till soft
Add boiled toor dal mix well
Add water, salt & let it boil
When boiling add jaggery & cut off heat
Simple thuvaram paruppu kuzhambu is ready. Serve hot with rice
