Sambar onion ellu puli kootu | Shallots[Chinna vengayam] sesame tamarind curry

Ingredients
- Sambar onion [Shallots, Chinna vengayam] – 15
- Tamarind water – ½ cup or tamarind paste – 2 tbsp
- Curry leaves – 1 spring
- Dry red chili - 1
- Mustard seeds – 1 tbsp
- Urad dal – ½ tbsp
- Bengal gram – ½ tbsp
- Turmeric powder – ¼ tsp
- Jaggery – ½ tsp [grated]
- Oil – 1 tbsp
- Salt to taste
- Asafetida a pinch
- Gingelly oil – 1 tbsp
- Water as needed
For roasting & grinding
- Coriander seeds – 1 tbsp
- Dry red chilli - 1
- Black sesame seeds – 1 ½ tbsp
- Bengal gram – 1 tbsp
- Coconut – 2 tbsp [grated]
- Heat oil in a pan then roast above ingredients & coarsely grind
Method
- Heat oil in a pan add mustard seeds & let its splutter. Then add Bengal gram & urad dal.
- Add onion saute till golden brown.
- Add dry red chilli &curry leaves & asafetida.
- Add tamarind water, salt & turmeric powder mix well & let it boil.
- Then add jaggery & ground powder mix well & let the mixture thickens.
- Then pour 1 tbso of gingelly oil, cut off heat. Serve hot with rice
