Cuisine Style: South India | Cooking Time: 10 to 15 minutes | To Serve: 2 | Take with: Chutney | Type: Breakfast or Dinner

Ingredients

  • Rava[Semolina] - 1 cup
  • Poha - ½ cup
  • Curd -1 cup
  • Water as needed
  • Green chilli - 1 [chopped]
  • Curry leaves - 1 spring
  • Ginger - 1 tbsp [grated]
  • Coriander Leaves - ½ cup [chopped]
  • Mustard seeds - 1 tbsp
  • Bengal gram - 1 tbsp
  • Urad dal - 1 tbsp
  • Asafetida - a pinch
  • Oil - 2 tbsp
  • Salt to taste

Preparation

  • Wash poha for 2 times
  • Roast rava for 3 min
  • In a bowl add roasted rava, poha, curd, salt and water, mix well and soak it for 1 hour.
  • Heat oil in a pan then add mustard seeds once it’s crackled add Bengal gram, urad dal, asafetida green chilli, ginger, and curry leaves fry
  • Cut off heat then add chopped coriander leaves.
  • Put these seasoned ingredients in poha batter mixture
  • Heat idli cooker with water & let it boil.
  • Then grease idly plates with oil and pour poha batter.
  • Place it in boiling water, cover lid and steam it for 15 min.
  • Then Serve hot with Coconut chutney or Traditional Sambar.

Note

  • Don’t add too much water.

Tip

  • Add turmeric while seasoning for color and flavour
  • you can add spinach, tomato, carrot or beetroot
  • You can make sweet poha idli using jaggery, coconut and cardamom.
  • Using this batter, you can make uthappam/pancake, appam[paniyaram], bonda/balls or vada [You can adjust the water consistency for vada and bonda]
  • You can make poha cake using this steaming method
