Carrot tomato (Thakkali) rasam | Tomato carrot soup

Ingredients
- Carrot – 1 [chopped]
- Tomato -1 [chopped]
- Garlic -2 [crushed]
- Dry red chilli - 1
- Curry leaves -1 spring
- Coriander leaves - 1 spring [chopped]
- Mustard seeds – ½ tbsp
- Cumin seeds – ½ tbsp
- Turmeric powder – ¼ tsp
- Pepper powder & Cumin powder – 1 ½ tbsp [dry roast peppercorns & cumin seeds then grind]
- Sugar a pinch
- Asafetida a pinch
- Salt to taste
- Oil – 1 tbsp
- Water as needed
Preparation
- Grind carrot & tomato in a mixer grinder with water and extract the juice and keep it aside.
- Heat pan with oil add mustard seeds and cumin seeds then add garlic, dry red chilli, curry leaves and asafetida.
- Add carrot tomato juice then add turmeric powder, freshly ground cumin, pepper powder and salt mix well.
- Once bubble comes out add sugar cut off heat. Garnish with coriander leaves & serve hot with rice.
Tip
- Instead of red chilli add green chilli for seasoning.
