Basmati Rice | Long grain rice-How to cook in an open pan-Step by step photos & video

Ingredients
- Basmati rice -2 cups
- Green cardamom - 2
- Salt to taste
- Water – 10 cups [For drain kanji]
- Saffron a pinch
- Ghee - 2 tbsp
Preparation Method 1
- Rinse and soak the rice for 1 hour.
- Heat pan with water. Once water boiled add washed basmati rice. Then add green cardamom, salt and ghee.
- Once rice is almost cooked (70%) cut off heat then drain extra water then sprinkle saffron; cover it and leave it for 2 min.
- Serve hot with any gravy.
Tip
- If it complete cooks before filter the excess water the rice becomes sticky.
- Use the basmati rice cooked water for making kanji.
- Use the filtered water to make rice Kanji or clear soup.
Preparation Method 2-Pressure Cooker method
- Wash and soak the rice for ½ an hour or 15 min. Then drain water
- In a pressure cooker put 2 cup rice, 2 ½ to 3 cups of water, ghee and salt mix gently then cook for 3 whistles.
Preparation Method 3-Normal Pan & Dont want to drain Kanji
- Wash and soak the rice for 15 min. Then drain water
- Heat pan add 4 cups of water & let it boil. Then add ghee & salt mix well. Then add soaked Basmati Rice gently mix & cover lid then cook for 10 to 15 min.

Wash and soak long grain basmati rice for 30 min
Boil enough water in a pan, add basmati rice mix gently
Let boil, add oil and salt mix gently
Cook till soft
Now basmati rice is ready, drain water, cover lid and leave it for 5 min
Perfectly cooked basmati rice is ready. Serve hot with any gravy
