Ingredients
- Thinai [Foxtail Millet]- 2 cups
- Onion-1[sliced]
- Carrot – 2 [chopped]
- Coconut – 3 tbsp [grated]
- Green chilli-1[chopped]
- Curry leaves- 1 spring
- Ginger-2tbsp [finely chopped]
- Mustard seeds-1 tbsp
- Bengal gram-1 tbsp
- Urad dal-1 tbsp
- Coriander leaves-2 tbsp [chopped]
- Water-3 ½ to 4 cups
- Salt to taste
- Oil – 2 tbsp
Preparation
- Dry roast thinai arisi & wash.
- Heat oil in a pressure cooker add mustard seeds & let its splutter. Then add Bengal gram, urad dal sauté gently then add onion sauté well then add ginger, green chilli, carrot, coconut, curry leaves sauté.
- Add water and salt and mix well & let it boil. Then add thinai arisi mix well then cover it and cook for 3 whistle.
- Then add coriander leaves mix well and serve hot with coconut chutney, pickle.

Take 1 cup thinai / foxtail millet
Wash & soak for 15 min
Heat 2 tbsp oil in a pressure cooker
Add Mustard seeds, let it splutter
Add chana dal & urad dal
Add onion saute
Add green chilli, gigner, curry leaves
Add potato
add carrot
Add coconut
Saute for 2 min
Add water, let it boil
Add salt, mix well
Add soaked thinai, mix well
Cover lid, cook for 4 whistles
After 4 whistles, remove steam
Mix well
Add coriander leaves, cut off heat, serve hot with green chutney
