Ulundu kozhukattai | Urad dal spicy dumplings-How to make-Step by step photos

Ingredients
- Rice flour – 1 cup
- Water – ¾ to 1 cup or as needed
- Urad dal [Ulundhu] – 1 cup
- Ginger -1 inch piece
- Green chilli – 1 or 2 [finely chopped]
- Cumin seeds - 1 tbsp
- Curry leaves – 2 springs [finely chopped]
- Coconut - 2 tbsp [grated]
- Salt to taste
- Sesame oil - 2 tbsp
Method
- Soak urad dal for 2 hours.
- In a mixer jar add urad dal, cumin seeds, ginger, green chilli & salt coarsely grind.
- Take a bowl add urad dal mixture, coconut ix well. Keep it aside.
- In bowl, take rice with water make it idli batter consistency without lumps.
- Heat Pan, pour batter and stir continuously till you get soft dough consistency.
- Divide the dough into equal size balls.
- Then grease finger with sesame oil. Give pressure at the center, rotate and make it bowl shape. Fill with ulundu poornam
- Press gently four corners and dot not seal. Leave space at the centre so that the Urad dal poornam will boil well.
- Steam for 5 min. Then serve hot.
How to make Ulundu kozhukattai- Stepwise pictures[Instant& Quick]
Soak urad dal for 1 hour
Add green chilli, ginger, curry leaves and cumin seeds
Add all ingredients, salt in a mixer jar then coarsely grind
Add coconut mix well
Add rice flour, water & salt mix well without lumps
Heat pan stir continuously till you get soft dough consistency
Kozhukattai dough is ready, add 1 tbsp sesame oil, knead it & make soft dough
Take lemon size ball, shape circle
Place ulundu poornam stuffing
Fold two edges
Fold edges then shape star
Place ulundu kolukattai in an idli plates
Place prepared kozhukattai in idli cooker & steam it for 8 min
After steaming, kozhukattai/dumplings are ready
