How to make Spicy Gavvalu-Shell shaped savoury video
Ingredients
- All purpose flour / Maida / Wheat flour – 1 cup
- Ghee [clarified butter] - 2 to 3 tbsp
- Red chili powder - 1 tbsp
- Roasted cumin powder - 1/4 tsp
- Garam masala powder - 1 tsp
- Turmeric powder - 1/4 tsp
- Salt - a pinch
- Water as need
- Oil for deep frying
For grinding
- Curry leaves- 1 spring
- Garlic - 4 cloves
- Salt - 1/4 tsp
- Put above ingredients in mixie ja, coarsely grind without water
Preparation
- In a bowl add Maida, ground curry leaves mixture, salt, ghee, red chilli powder, turmeric, garam masala, cumin powder, 1 tbsp oil, mix well
- Then add water slowly to make the soft dough.
- Cover the bowl with cotton cloth then leave it for 15 min.
- Divide the dough into small balls , using fork or gavvalu maker, shape gavval [shell shape]
- Heat oil & ghee in a pan then deep fry till crisp & golden brown on low to medium hot oil
- When it is ready take it out & drain on an absorbent paper.
- Then cool it in room temperature.
- Store it in an airtight container & use within 1 month
How to make spicy Gavvalu -Step by step photos
In a mixie jar, add curry leaves, garlic & salt
Coarsely grind
Add maida & ground mixture
Add ghee
Add red chilli powder, turmeric, salt, cumin powder, 1 tbsp oil, salt mix well
Add water, mix well, make soft dough
Dough is ready
Cover it , keep it aside for 10 min
After 10 min, knead it again
Divide the dough into equal size portions
Shape balls
Take one ball
flatten
Fold
Raw Gavvalu ready
Cute gavvalu ready to fry
Heat oil, drop it
Deep fry till crisp & golden brown
Now its ready, remove it from oil
