Paruppu thanni rasam | Toor dal stock rasam [Soup] - Stepwise pictures

Ingredients
- Paruppu thanni [Toor dal stock] – 1 ½ cup
- Tomato - 1
- Garlic – 3 cloves [mashed]
- Green chilli – ½
- Dry red chilli – ½
- Turmeric powder – ¼ tsp
- Curry leaves – 1 spring
- Coriander leaves – 2 springs [chopped]
- Mustard seeds - 1 tbsp
- Cumin seeds - 1 tbsp
- Peppercorns - 5
- Asafetida a pinch
- Salt to taste
- Oil – 1 tbsp
- Water as needed
For Roasting & grinding Ingredients
- Peppercorns - 5
- Cumin seeds – 1 tbsp
- Dry roast then grind to fine or coarse powder
Preparation Method-1
- Wash and boil toor dal in cooker for 4 whistles. Then drain water & keep it aside. You can use boiled toor dal for making kuzhambu or sambar.
- Wash and put tomato in bowl,add toor dal stock then mash well with hands and drain tomato skin.
- Heat oil in a pan then add mustard seeds. Once it’s spluttered then add garlic sauté.
- Then add green chilli, dry red chilli and curry leaves.
- Add toor dal & tomato mixed stock. Add asafetida, turmeric powder, salt and freshly ground pepper, cumin powder mix well & allow it to boil.
- When boiling cut off heat then sprinkle coriander leaves serve hot with rice.
Preparation Method-2
- Wash and put tomato in bowl then add toor dal stock & mash well with hands and drain tomato skin.
- Heat pan then pour toor dal with tomato mixture. Then add mashed garlic, turmeric powder, asafetida, & salt mix well.
- Add freshly ground cumin & pepper powder & let it boil.
- For seasoning heat oil in a pan then add mustard seeds. Once it’s spluttered then add dry red chilli and curry leaves.
- When boiling cut off heat then sprinkle coriander leaves. Add seasoned ingredients & serve hot with rice.

Toor dal stock [Paruppu thanni] and tomato, mash well then drain
Heat toor dal mixture, add garlic, turmeric powder, asafetida, & Pepper&cumin powder, let it boil
Bubbles comes out then add salt
Cut off heat, add coriander leaves
Add seasoned ingredients-Mustard & cumin seeds, peppercorns, red chilli, curry leaves
Paruppu thanni rasam ready to serve. serve hot with rice
