Some dishes don’t have alternative and you cant get anywhere except it should be prepared by you or your mom. The flavor and taste of Kadhambam rice is so good. In our village we often make this Kadhambam rice whenever we get bored with lemon rice, tomato rice or any variety rice. It’s like half besibalabath plus half samabar sadham. Here are the ingredients and procedure goes on
Ingredients
- Rice - 2 cups
- Tamarind-1/2 lime sized ball
- Toor Dal -1/2 cup
- Turmeric Powder-1 tsp
- Sambar onion[Shallots]- 10
- Mustard seeds-2 tsp
- Asafoetida -1/2 tsp
- Tomato- 1 Big
- 1 cup of vegetables (Carrot, Potato, Avaraikai, Drumstick,Egg plant..etc)
- Curry Leaves - 1 spring
- Oil-2 tsp
- Salt to taste
Roast and grind into course paste the following and keep it aside.
- Coriander seeds– 1 tbsp
- Bengal gram – 1 tbsp
- Dry Red chilli– 3 nos
- Urad Dal– 1 tbsp
- Coconut -1 inch piece
Preparation
- Heat oil in a pan add sambar onion saute well
- Then add tomatos saute till raw smell goes off
- Sprinkle asafoetida, turmeric powder the fry for some time
- Add the diced vegetables, dal, salt, tamaraind and ground mixture
- Add 6 cups of water, Let it for boil then transfer this mixture into the pressure cooker
- Add rice
- Pressure cook it for 4 whistles
- Heat 1 tbsp oil in a pan season with mustard seeds, curry leaves & Dry red chilli
- Add seasoned ingredients into the rice mixture mix well
- Serve hot with Lemon pickle

- Use ghee for better taste
