Khus khus payasam | Poppy seeds kheer-How to make-Step by step photos

Ingredients
- Poppy seeds [Khus khus, kasa kasa] - 1 cup
- Milk – 3 cups
- Saffron – few
- Jaggery or sugar – ½ cup
- Green cardamom powder - ½ tbsp
- Cashew nuts - 7
- Raisins - 6
- Pistachio - 4
- Almonds [sliced] -3
- Ghee - 3 tbsp
Preparation
- Wash and soak poppy seeds in hot water for 2 hours. Then drain water & grind to fine paste with small amount of water.
- Heat ghee in a pan, roast cashew nuts, raisins, pistachios and almonds keep it aside.
- In the same pan add milk, ground paste let it boil & thickens [Apr 10 to 15 min]. Then add jaggery or sugar mix well.
- Add ghee roasted cashew nut, raisins, pistachio and almonds slices.
- Finally add cardamom powder & saffron then cut off heat.
- Serve hot or cold.
Tip
- For another variation of semiya payasam use condensed milk or jaggery
How to make Khus khus payasam-Stepwise pictures
Wash & soak poppy seeds in hot water for 2 hours, drain water, grind to fine paste with water
Grind in stone mortar pestle
Ghee roast almonds and cashew nut
Ghee roast pistachios
Heat milk in a pan & let it boil.
Add saffron
Add freshly ground poppy seeds mixture let it boil and thickens
Add sugar mix well
Finally add cardamom powder &cut off heat
Poppy seeds kheer is ready, garnish with nuts then serve hot or chilled
