Vazhakkai kootu | Raw banana kootu-How to make-Step by step photos

Ingredients
- Raw Banana[vazhakkai, Kacha kela] -1 [Peel off the skin & cut into cubes]
- Turmeric powder – ¼ tsp
- Mustard seeds – 1 tbsp
- Curry leaves – 1 spring
- Salt to taste
- Oil – 2 tbsp
- Water as needed
For roasting & grinding ingredients
- Coconut – 2 tbsp [grated]
- Dry red chilli – 2
- Urad dal – 1 tbsp
- Asafetida a pinch
- Heat 1 tbsp oil in a pan then roast above ingredients one by one then grind well with ¼ cup of water.
Method
- Heat water in a pan, let it boil. Then add turmeric powder, salt, raw banana cook till soft. Then drain water.
- Heat oil in a pan add mustard seeds & let it splutter.
- Add curry leaves & boiled raw banana saute gently.
- Add ground coconut mixture mix well & let it boil.
- Then cut off heat & serve hot with rice.
Note
- Don’t pressure cook Raw Banana because it loses nutrient values.

Boil raw banana with turmeric powder and salt
Once boiled then drain water & keep it aside
Heat oil in a pan roast dry red chilli & urad dal then place it in a stone mortar
Roast grated coconut
Add roasted ingredients in a stone mortar & grind to fine paste.
Heat oil in a pan seasoning with mustard seeds and curry leaves
Add boiled raw banana cubes saute gently
Add ground paste, salt mix well and let it boil
Vazhakkai raw banana kootu is ready.Serve hot with rice
