Samai keerai pongal | Little Millet Greens Pongal -How to make-Step by step photos

Ingredients
- Samai arisi[Little Millet, Samak Rice] – 1 ½ cup
- Moong dal – ½ cup
- Arai keerai [Greens, Amaranthus Tristis] – 1 cup [washed, plucked & chopped]
- Turmeric powder – ¼ tsp
- Salt to taste
- Water - 6 to 7 cups [open pan] 3 ¼ cups for pressure cooker
For seasoning [Ingredients]
- Cumin seeds – 1 tbsp
- Peppercorns - 7
- Cashew nuts – 10
- Green chilli – 1 [finely chopped]
- Ginger – 1 tbsp [chopped & mashed]
- Curry leaves – 1 spring
- Ghee – 3 tbsp
Preparation
- Dry roast samai arisi, wash and soak for 10 min. Dry roast moong dal.
- Heat pan, add moong dal, water & ghee, cover it & cook for 5 min.
- Then add soaked samai arisi cook till soft.
- Heat another pan add ghee, chopped arai keerai, turmeric powder & salt sauté gently. Then add water cook till soft [apr. 4 min].
- For seasoning: - Heat ghee in a pan, add cumin seeds, pepper corns, ginger, green chili, cashews & curry leaves sauté then cut off heat.
- Add cooked arai keerai & seasoned ingredients in to samai moong dal mixture.
- Add salt & ghee mix well then serve hot with chutney or pickle.

Add dry roasted green moong dal, ghee cook for 5 min
Add samai arisi cook till soft
Heat ghee in a pan add arai keerai saute till soft
Heat ghee add seasoned ingredients saute.
Perfectly cooked samai moong dal mixture
Add seasoned ingredients and sauted arai keerai
Add salt to samai keerai pongal
Add ghee
Little millet greens pongal is ready. Serve hot with coconut chutney
