Ingredients

  • Toor dal – ½ cup
  • Tomato – 1 [chopped]
  • Dry red chilli – 1
  • Green chilli – 1 [slit]
  • Curry leaves -1 spring
  • Coriander leaves – 1 spring
  • Turmeric & red chilli powder- ½ tsp
  • Cumin seeds – ½ tbsp
  • Mustard seeds- ½ tbsp
  • Jaggery [vellam] – ½ tbsp [grated]
  • Asafetida a pinch
  • Salt to taste
  • Oil – 2 tbsp
  • Water as needed

Method

  • Wash toor dal. Heat pressure cooker add toor dal, water, turmeric powder & cover it, cook for 4 whistles.
  • Heat oil in a pan add mustard seeds & let its splutter then add cumin seeds, green chilli, dry red chilli and curry leaves.
  • Add tomato sauté till soft. Then add asafetida, turmeric & red chilli powder.
  • Add boiled toor dal, salt mix well & let it boil. When boiling add jaggery then cut off heat, sprinkle coriander leaves then serve hot with rice.
