Idiyappam thengai paal| String hoppers wiht coconut milk- How to make-step by step photos & Video

Ingredients for Idiyappam
- Idli rice - 1 cup
- Normal rice[Kolam or long grain rice] - 1 cup
- Salt to taste
- Gingelly oil – 1 tbsp
- Water as needed
Ingredients for Thengai paal/Coconut milk
- Coconut - 1 grated
- Sugar - 3 tbsp
- Sesame seeds - 1 tbsp [dry roast & coarsely grind]
- Water - 1/2 cup
- Put grated coconut & water in a miwer jar finely grind
- Then filter & extract coconut milk
- Add sugar mix well.
Preparation Method
- Wash & soak 2 variety rice for 4 to 5 hours then drain water & put it in a grinder or mixie grind to fine batter with enough water. [Dosa batter consistency & Don’t let it for fermentation].
- In a bowl add freshly ground batter & salt mix well.
- Heat idli cooker with water & let it boil.
- Grease idli plates with gingelly oil.
- Pour batter in each cavity, place it in an idli cooker, cover it & steam it for 10 min.
- Then de-mould idlis using sharp edged spoon.
- In an idiyappam kuzhal add steamed idlis & squeeze.
- Once idiyappam is ready, serve hot with coconut milk & sesame seeds

Add water & grind to smooth batter
Batter ready
Transfer batter to a bowl
Add salt
Mix well & keep it aside
Add grated coconut in a mixie jar
Add water
Finely grind
Filter coconut milk
Coconut milk ready
Add sugar, mix well
Dry roast sesame seeds
Now its ready, cut off heat
Coarsely grind
Pour ground batter to idli plates
Place it in a idli cooker/steamer, steam it for 10 min
Now its ready, cut off heat
Add steamed idli into idiyappam machine
Squeeze over the plate
Soft & smooth idiyappam ready
Add coconut milk
Sprinkle ground sesame seeds, serve immediately
