Generally tomato Rice differs according to their region. This tomato rice is traditional south Indian style. Simple ingredients make this recipe more tasteful. This south Indian style tomato rice avoids so many masalas. So here is the perfect south Indian style tomato rice is ready to eat.
Ingredients
- Rice - 1 Cup
- Tomato - 3
- Garlic - 3 cloves
- Green Chilli - 2
- Dry red Chilli - 1
- Onion - 1 [chopped]
- Mustard seeds[rai] - 1 tbsp
- Fennel seeds - 1 tbsp
- Chana dal - 1 tbsp
- Urad dal- 1 tbsp
- Turmeric powder- 1 tsp
- Red chilli powder - 1/2 tbsp
- Oil - 3 tbsp
- Curry Leaves - 1 spring
- Asafetida[Hing, perungayam] - 1/4 tsp
- Salt to taste
- Water as needed
Preparation
- Cook Rice and spread over the plate, let it cool.
- Heat water in a pan, let it boil. Add tomato let it boil for 5 min.
- Then drain water, peel off the skin, chop & put it in a mixer jar grind to fine puree.
- Heat oil in a pan, add mustard seeds let it splutter.
- Add chana dal & urad dal fry.
- Add asafetida, curry leaves & onions saute till soft.
- Add garlic, dry red chilli & green chilli saute.
- Add tomato puree, red chilli powder & turmeric powder cook till raw smell out & slightly thick
- Add rice & salt mix well.
- Serve with pickle or chips

- Basmathi rice will bring extra taste.

Boil rice, spread over the plate, let it cool
Boil water, add tomatoes
Now its ready, cut off heat
Drain water
Boiled tomatoes ready
Peel off the tomato skin
Repeat the procedure for another 2 tomatoes
Chop
Put it in a mixer jar, finely grind
Tomato puree ready
Heat oil, add mustard seeds, let it splutter
Add chana dal, urad dal & asafetida
Add onion, curry leaves, dry red chilli & green chilli
Add garlic & salt saute well
Add tomato puree
Let it boil
Add turmeric powder
Add red chilli powder, cook till raw smell out & thick
Add salt mix well
Add rice
Mix well with tomato mixture
Delicious tomato rice ready, cut off heat
