Cornmeal pongal | Corn rava pongal-How to make-Stepwise pictures

Ingredients

  • Cornmeal [Corn rava] – 1 cup
  • Moong dal – ¼ cup
  • Ghee [melted butter] – 2 tbsp
  • Peppercorns – ½ tbsp [Crushed]
  • Salt to taste
  • Water – 3 cups

For Seasoning [Ingredients]

  • Cumin seeds – 1 tbsp
  • Pepper corns - 7
  • Ginger – 1 tbsp [finely chopped]
  • Curry leaves – 1 spring
  • Cashew nuts - 10
  • Ghee – 2 tbsp

Method

  • Dry roast cornmeal & green moong dal then wash.
  • In a pressure cooker, add dry roasted cornmeal, moong dal & water. Add ghee, cover it & cook 3 to 4 whistles.
  • Heat pan then add ghee & seasoning with cumin seeds, peppercorns, cashew nut, ginger, & curry leaves.
  • Add these seasoned ingredients, & salt to cornmeal mixture mix well.
  • Sprinkle ghee [melted butter] & serve hot with coconut chutney or sambar.

Tip

  • For extra spicy flavor add green chilli when seasoning.
