Simple paruppu sadam

Ingredients
- Toor dal – ½ cup
- Rice – 1 cup
- Sambar onion - 7
- Cumin seeds – ½ tbsp
- Garlic – 2 cloves
- Turmeric powder – ¼ tsp
- Water as needed
Seasoning ingredients
- Mustard seeds – 1 tbsp
- Cumin seeds – ½ tbsp
- Peppercorns [optional] – 6
- Dry red chilli - 2
- Curry leaves – 1 spring
- Bengal gram – ½ tbsp
- Urad dal – ½ tbsp
- Salt to taste
- Oil – 2 tbsp
Method
- Wash toor dal and rice
- In a pressure cooker put rice, toor dal, cumin seeds, garlic, sambar onion and turmeric powder. Then add 3 ½ cup water and cover it and cook for 4 whistles.
- Heat pan with oil add mustard seeds, cumin seeds, Bengal, gram, urad dal, peppercorns, dry red chilli and curry leaves.
- Add these seasoning ingredients in to cooked rice and add salt mix well.
- Serve hot with pickle, chutney
