Mochakottai kootu


Cuisine Style: Tamil Nadu, South India | Cooking Time: 10 minutes | To Serve: 4 | Take with: Idli, Dosa, Rice, Chapathi, paal pongal | Type : Kootu, arachuvitta kootu

Ingredients

  • Fresh Mochakottai [Lima Beans] – 1 cup
  • Curry leaves – 1 spring
  • Turmeric powder – ¼ tsp
  • Mustard seeds – 1 tbsp
  • Asafetida a pinch
  • Oil – 2 tbsp
  • Salt to taste
  • Water as needed.

For roasting and grinding

  • Bengal gram – 1 tbsp
  • Urad dal - ½ tbsp
  • Coriander seeds -1 tbsp
  • Cumin Seeds – 1 tbsp
  • Dry red chilli - 1
  • Coconut – ¼ cup [grated]
  • Heat oil in a pan, roast all ingredients & grind to fine paste with ¼ cup of water

Method

  • Boil mochakottai till soft.
  • Heat oil in a pan then add mustard seeds. Once it’s spluttered add curry leaves & asafetida.
  • Add mochakottai, turmeric powder & salt mix well & sauté.
  • Add ground paste & water mix well & let it boil. When boiling cut off heat serve hot with ven pongal, paal pongal
