This is yet another healthy breakfast recipe. Its too good for the growing children. Its easy, tasty and helathy. Though its liquid / semi fluid one glass of Ulundhu kanji is more than sufficient for breakfast. Kids will love this. Try it now!


  • Urad Dal - 3 tbsp
  • Grated Coconut - 3 tbsp
  • Cardomom powder - 1/2 tsp
  • Sugar or jaggery - 4 tbsp
  • Water as needed
  • Salt a pinch


  • Wash & soak urad dal for 3 hours.
  • Then drain water & Coarse grind urad dal without water.
  • In a pan heat water, add coarsely ground urad dal, mix well without lumps.
  • Then let it boil for 3 min
  • Add brown sugar, grated coconut and pinch of salt mix well
  • Spinkle cardomom powder and mix well
  • Serve hot with appalam


  • You can add saffron for color
