Varagu paruppu sadam | Kodo millet dal rice-How to make-With photos

Ingredients
- Varagu arisi [kodo millet]– 1 ¼ cup
- Toor dal – ½ cup
- Sambar onion - 7
- Cumin seeds – ½ tbsp
- Garlic – 2 cloves
- Turmeric powder – ¼ tsp
- Water – 4 cups
For Seasoning
- Mustard seeds – 1 tbsp
- Cumin seeds – ½ tbsp
- Peppercorns [optional] – 6
- Dry red chilli - 3
- Curry leaves – 1 spring
- Bengal gram – ½ tbsp
- Urad dal – ½ tbsp
- Salt to taste
- Gingelly Oil – 2 tbsp
Method
- Wash toor dal, & varagu arisi.
- Add varagu arisi, toor dal, cumin seeds, garlic, sambar onion, turmeric powder & 4 cups of water in a pressure cooker then cover lid & cook for 4 whistles.
- For seasoning:- Heat oil in a pan add mustard seeds, cumin seeds, Bengal, gram, urad dal, peppercorns, dry red chilli and curry leaves.
- Add seasoned ingredients to the cooked rice and add salt mix well.
- Serve hot with pickle.

Pressure cook varagu, toor dal, small onion, cumin, turmeric, for 4 whistles with 4 cups of water
Then add salt mix well
Add seasoned ingredients mix well. Finally add 2 tbsp of gingelly oil mix well & serve hot
