Thaen mittai | Sugar candy-How to make at home-Step by step photos

Ingredients
- Idli rice / rice–1 cup
- Urad dal - 1/4 cup
- Orange food colour - a pinch
- Baking soda / Powder -1/2 tsp
- Water as required
- Oil for deep frying
For Sugar syrup
- Sugar -1 cup
- Water - 1/4 cup
- Cardamom powder - 1 tsp
Preparation Method
- Wash & soak rice & urad for 3 hours.
- Then drain water completely
- Put it in blender/ mixie jar add soaked rice, urad dal coarsely grind with small amount of water.
- Add food colour mix well.
- Heat sugar, & water, let it boil till 1 string consistency.
- Add cardamom powder cut off heat
- Heat oil in a pan, make small balls out of the mixture, drop it in medium hot oil, deep fry till light brown.
- Drain on absorbent paper then put it in sugar syrup & soak it for 5 min.
- Then serve with tea or coffee
How to make Thaen mittai at home -Step by step photos
Take 1 cup rice & 1/4 cup urad dal
Wash and soak it for 3 hours
After 3 hours, drain water
Now its ready to grind
In a mixie jar add saoked rice & urad dal, coarsely grind with small amount of water
Batter ready
Add baking powder
Add food color
Mix well
Drop it in hot oil, deep fry till light brown
Remove it from hot oil
Add sugar, water let it boil till one string consistency
Sugar syrup ready
Add fried balls, soak it for 5 min then let it cool
Then mittai, sugar candy ready
Keep it in airtight container, use within 1 week
