Ingredients

  • Pavakkai [Bittergourd, karela]– 1 cup or 1
  • Gram flour - 1/2 cup
  • Rice flour – 1/4 cup or 4 tbsp
  • Red chilli powder - ½ tsp
  • Turmeric powder – ¼ tsp
  • Chaat masala powder– 1 tbsp
  • Asafoetida[Hing, perungayam]- 1/4 tsp
  • Lemon juice - 2 tbsp or juice of 1 lemon
  • Oil - 1 tbsp
  • Salt to taste
  • Oil for deep frying
  • Water - 3 tbsp

Preparation

  • Wash and thinly slice bittergourd.
  • Add bittergourd slices in a bowl add lemon juice, salt, turmeric & red chilli powder mariante for 10 min.
  • In a bowl add gram flour, rice flour, chaat masala pwoder, asafoetida, red chilli, turmeric powder, salt & oil mix well
  • Add marinated bitter gourd & 3 tbsp of water mix well [dont add too much water].
  • Heat oil in a pan, add bittergourd slices, deep fry till crisp & golden brown on medium hot oil.
  • Once its ready remove from oil & drain on absorbent paper.
  • Serve hot with curd rice, evening snack, tea or coffee
