Palak chole | Chana palak | Spinach chickpeas curry-How to make-Step by step photos

Spinach and chickpeas are best combination for gravy. Its instant, delicious and healthy.
You can make it in one pot pressure cooker. This is best side dish for rice and chapathi.For vegan you can avoid butter and cream. Instead of this you can use cashew cream/almond cream/ coconut cream. If you don't like tomato just skip. For different variations you can add paneer, potato, mushroom, lotus seeds, beetroot, carrot, cauliflower, corn, baby corn, mustard greens, red kidney beans, lentils, or kofta in this gravy
Ingredients
- Chickpeas [Chana, chole] – 1 cup
- Spinach – 1 bunch
- Cumin – 1 tbsp
- Cloves – 2
- Cinnamon-1 stick
- Green cardamom – 3
- Bay leaf – 1
- Curd / Fresh cream – 3 tbsp [fully whisked]
- Garam masala- ¼ tbsp
- Turmeric powder – ¼ tsp
- Red chilli powder – ½ tbsp
- Kasoori methi powder– ½ tbsp
- Salt to taste
- Butter – 1 inch cube
- Oil – 2 tbsp
Ingredients for boil & grind
- Onion – 1 [grated]
- Garlic – 2 cloves [grated]
- Ginger – ½ tbsp [grated]
- Green chilli – 1 [chopped]
- Cashews - 2 tbsp
- Toamto - 1 or 2
- Heat pan add water let it boil, add above all ingredients, boil for 5 min then drain water, put it in a mixie jar, grind to fine puree
Preparation
- Wash and soak chickpeas for 8 hours or overnight
- Then cook till soft with salt.
- Wash and cook spinach for 2 min then drain water & grind to fine puree.
- Heat pan with oil & butter then add bay leaf, cloves, cinnamon, cardamom, cumin, saute till you get nice aroma
- Add tomato puree cook for 5 min or cook till oil separates
- Add cooked chickpeas, spinach puree, turmeric, red chilli powder & garam masala powder cook for 5 min
- Add fresh cream/curd cook for 2 min
- Add kasoori methi, mix well then cut off heat
- Then Serve hot with roti, naan and rice.
Note
- Don’t overcook spinach. It loses its color, nutrition and flavor.
- It would taste more when fried chickpeas is added.

Heat pan, add tomato, onion, green chilli, garlic, ginger & green chilli
Add water boil till soft [Apr 5 min]
Now its ready, cut off heat, drain water
Put it in a mixie jar, grind to fine puree
Boil chickpeas with salt
Boiled chickpeas ready, drain water
Boil spinach with1/4 cup water for 3 min
Now its ready, cut off heat
Put spinach in a mixie jar, grind to fine puree
Heat pan add 2 tbsp oil & butter or ghee
Add bay leaf
Add cumin, cinnamon, cardamon, and cloves
Add tomato puree
Add red chilli, turmeric powder
Add salt
Add garam masala
Add boiled chickpeas, cook for 5 min
Add spinach puree
Add fresh cream/curd
Add kasoori methi, cut off heat
Chole palak ready, serve hot with rice or roti
