How to make Sorakkai masiyal [Bottle gourd masala] video
Ingredients
- Sorakkai[Lauki, bottle gourd]– 1 small
- Onion - 1
- Green chilli -1
- Garlic –3 cloves
- Curry leaves – 1 spring
- Turmeric powder – ¼ tsp
- Red chilli powder – ½ tsp
- Coriander powder - 1 tbsp
- Mustard seeds – 1 tbsp
- Bengal gram – 1 tbsp
- Urad dal – 1/2 tbsp
- Asafetida a pinch
- Salt to taste
- Oil – 2 tbsp
- Water as needed
Method
- Wash & peel off bottle gourd, then chop
- Heat 2 tbsp oil in a pressure cooker add mustard seeds, let it splutter.
- Add bengal gram, urad dal saute till light brown
- Add hing, curry leaves, green chilli, onion, garlic, turmeric, red chilli powder, coriander powder saute till soft.
- Add sorakkai[bottle gourd] cover lid & cook for 3 to 4 whistles.
- Once its ready, mash well.
- Heat 1 tbsp oil in a ladle, add mustard ,red chilli powder fry.
- Add seasononing ingredients to sorakkai masiyal mix well.
- Then serve hot with rice, chapathi, idli or dosa.

Take small Fresh sorakkai
Peel off, wash & chop
Heat 2 tbsp oil, mustard, chana dal, urad dal, garlic, curry leaves, green chilli, onion
Add sorakkai
Add turmeric, coriander powder
Add salt, mix well
Add 1 cup water
Cover lid ,cook for 4 whistles
After 4 whistles
Mash well
Sorakakai masiyal ready
cut off heat
Heat iron ladle, add 1 tbsp oil, dry red chilli, red chilli powder
Pour over sorakaki masiyal
