How to make Avarakkai moong dal sambar video
Ingredients
- Avarakkai [Broad beans] – 1 cup [cut into circles]
- Moong dal – ¼ cup
- Tamarind water – 1/4 cup [soak 1 inch size tamarind in warm water, squeeze &extract water]
- Tomato – 1 [chopped]
- Onion - 1
- Green chilli – 1 [slit]
- Garlic – 3 cloves
- Curry leaves – 1 spring
- Coriander leaves – 2 springs [chopped]
- Turmeric powder – ¼ tsp
- Red chilli powder – ½ tsp
- Mustard seeds – 1 tbsp
- Asafetida a pinch
- Salt to taste
- Oil – 2 tbsp
- Water as needed
Ingredients for roasting & grinding
- Chana dal - 1 tbsp
- Urad dal - 1 tbsp
- Coriander seeds - 1 tbsp
- Cumin seeds- 1 tbsp
- Peppercorns - 1 tsp
- Dry red chilli - 2
- Coconut - 2 tbsp
- Oil – 2 tbsp
- Water - 1/2 glass
- Heat 1 tbsp oil in a pan, add all above ingredients, roast till light brown
- Then grind to fien paste with 1/2 glass of water
Method
- Wash moong dal 2 to 3 times then cook till soft with turmeric powder
- Wash broad beans then chop.
- Heat pressure cooker add oil, mustard, chana dal, & urad dal fry for a min.
- Add fenugreek powder saute for a min
- Add curry leaves, asafoetida, green chilli, onion, saute well
- Add garlic, turmeric, red chilli powder, tomato, broad beans, mix well
- Add moong dal, ground mixture, tamarind water, cook for 5 min
- Add coriander leaves, cut off heat
- Then serve hot with rice, idli or dosa.

Heat 2 tbsp oil, add mustard, chana dal, urad dal
Add onion, green chilli, garlic, hing
Add tomato
Add avarakkai, turmeric, red chilli powder
add water & salt
Heat pan, add chana dal, urad dal, dry red chilli, pepper, coriander, cumin, coconut
Roast till light brown
Put roasted ingredients in a mixie jar, grind with 1/2 glass water
Ground mixture ready
Add cooked moong dal
Add ground mixture
Add tamarind water
Boil for 5 min

Add coriander leaves
Transfer to a bowl
