Ingredients

  • Vazhakkai[Raw banana, kacha kela] - 2
  • Besan [gram flour, kadalai maavu] – 3/4 cup
  • Rice flour – 1/4 cup
  • Red chilli powder – 1 tsp
  • Turmeric powder- ¼ tsp
  • Asafetida a pinch
  • Ginger & garlic paste - 1 tbsp [or finely chopped]
  • Oil - 1 tbsp
  • Salt to taste
  • Water as needed
  • Oil for deep frying

Preparation Method

  • Wash & slice green banana
  • Slice lengthwise or thinly slice like circles
  • Add gram flour, rice flour, salt, asafetida, red chilli & turmeric powder then add water mix well & make batter without lumps
  • Add 1 tbsp of oil into gram flour batter for crispiness & fluffy
  • Heat oil in a pan, dip green banana slices into the prepared batter, drop it in hot oil, deep fry till crisp & golden brown both sides on medium hot oil
  • Once its ready remove from oil, drain on absorbent paper & serve hot with tea or coffee.

Notes and tips

  • For easy digestion use ginger garlic paste.
  • For tangy flavour use lemon juice, curd & green chilli.
  • You can use rich red colour-Soak kashmiri red chilli in hot water then grind and add
  • You can use corn flour also
  • For fluffy batter add baking soda or baking powder.
  • You can add ground onion, garlic paste for unique flavour.
