Ingredients for khara kolukattai:-
- Rice flour -1/2 cup
- Water - 3/4 cup
- Mustard seeds -1 tbsp
- Chana dal, urad dal , sesame seeds- 1 tbsp
- Green chilli - 1
- Ginger - 1 tbsp
- Coconut - 3 tbsp
- Hing - 1/2 tsp
- Turmeric - 1/2 tsp
- Red chilli powder - 1/2 tsp
- Curry, coriander leaves - 2 spring
- Salt to taste
- Oil -1 tbsp
Ingredients for Sweet kolukattai:-
- Rice flour - 1/2 cup
- Jaggery/Naatu sakarai - 1/4 cup
- Water - 1/2 cup
- Salt a pinch
- Cardamom powder -1/4 tsp
- Coconut - 3 tbsp
- Ghee & Oil - 1 tbsp
Preparation for Kara kolukattai:-
- Heat oil in a pan, add mustard seeds, hing, Bengal gram, urad dal, sesame seeds, ginger, green chilli, curry leaves, coconut saute for a min
- Add water, salt, let it boil
- Add rice flour, mix well, cover lid, leave it for 5 min
- 5 min later, mix well, make soft dough
- Divide the dough into equal size balls
- Then steam it for 5 to 8 minutes in a steamer (idli cooker or idli koppar) & offer to god, serve hot with tomato tamarind chutney or green chutney.
Preparation for sweet kolukattai:-
- Boil water, add jaggery, sesame, ghee, pinch of salt,
- Add rice flour, cardamom, mix well, cover lid, leave it for 5 min
- 5 min later, mix well, make soft dough
- Divide the dough into equal size balls
- Then steam it for 5 to 8 minutes in a steamer (idli cooker or idli koppar) & offer to god, serve hot
