Ingredients

  • Seema kathirikai [chow chow, chayote]– 1 cup [peel off the skin, chop]
  • Moong dal [pachai paruppu]– 3 tbsp
  • Dry red chilli – 1
  • Green chilli -1
  • Sambar Onion – 7 [chopped]
  • Curry leaves – 1 spring
  • Mustard seeds – 1 tbsp
  • Bengal gram – ½ tbsp
  • Urad dal – ½ tbsp
  • Red chilli powder – 1 tsp
  • Turmeric powder – ¼ tsp
  • Coconut - 2 tbsp [grated]
  • Salt to taste
  • Oil – 2 tbsp
  • Water as needed

Method

  • Dry roast moong dal then wash.
  • Boil moong dal with turmeric powder in an open pan for 10 min
  • Heat oil in a pan add mustard seeds & let it splutter.
  • Then add bengal gram, urad dal saute.
  • Add sambar onion, dry red chilli, green chilli & curry leaves sauté till soft.
  • Add chow chow sauté for 3 min.
  • Add turmeric powder, red chilli powder & salt sauté well.
  • Add enough water cook till soft
  • Then add boiled moong dal & coconut mix well
  • Then cut off heat, serve hot with rice or chapatti.
