Nei kathirikai poriyal is simple and delicious side dish for rice. This is made with my home garden nattu kathirikai with coconut, turmeric & red chilli powder.

Ingredients

  • Kathirikai [eggplant, brinjal] - ¼ kg
  • Sambar Onion – 5 to 6
  • Garlic – 1 clove
  • Green chilli – 1 chopped
  • Curry leaves – 1 spring
  • Coconut – 3 tbsp [Grated]
  • Turmeric powder – ¼ tsp
  • Red chili powder – ½ tsp
  • Asafoetida - 1/4 tsp
  • Mustard seeds - 1 tsp
  • Chana dal - 1 tbsp
  • Urad dal - 1/2 tbsp
  • Salt to taste
  • Ghee - 1 tbsp
  • Groundnut oil – 2 tbsp

Preparation

  • Heat iron casting pan add oil & ghee, add mustard seeds & let it splutter
  • Add chana dal & urad dal saute for a min
  • Add curry leaves, asafoetida, sambar onion, green chilli & garlic sauté till soft.
  • Add coconut saute for a min.
  • Add kathirikai, turmeric powder, red chilli powder sauté on medium-low flame till soft.
  • Then cut off heat & serve hot with rice.
