Vazhaipoo poriyal recipe | Banana flower stir fry-How to make-Stepwise pictures & Video

Clear & easy demonstration on removing banana flower stigma and cooking. It is prepared on clay pot in traditional method. I love this porial, one of the tastiest curry in the world.
Ingredients
- Vazhaipoo [banana flower] – 1
- Coconut – ¼ cup [grated]
- Onion – 1 [sliced]
- Green chilli - 1
- Curry leaves – 1 spring
- Turmeric powder – ¼ tsp
- Red chilli powder – ¼ tsp
- Corainder powder – ½ tbsp
- Mustard seeds – 1 tbsp
- Bengal gram – 1 tbsp
- Urad dal – 1 tbsp
- Jaggery – ½ tbsp
- Oil – 2 tbsp
- Salt to taste
- Water as needed
Method
- Peel off the petals. And pluck the white flowers. Then hold flower bunch & rub the tip with other hand now you can see the stamens and stigma. Just cut the stigma. Now chop and put it in turmeric powder mixed water.
- Repeat the procedure for all flowers. Then drain excess water and boil for 7 min.
- Heat pan with oil add mustard, Bengal gram and urad dal.
- Add onion sauté till soft. Then add green chilli & curry leaves.
- Add 2 tbsp coconut, sauté.
- Add banana flower and salt sauté well. Then add jaggery and remaining coconut mix well. Cut off heat and serve hot with rice.

Separate stigma & calyx
Stigma & Calyx
Remove stigma & Calyx
Chop florets
Put in in turmeric added water
Heat 2 tbsp oil in a pan, add mustard, bengal gram , urad dal, asafetida & curry leaves
Add green chilli, dry red chilli, onion, salt & coconut
Add banana flower florets
Add turmeric & red chilli powder
Saute for 2 min then let it cook for 5 to 8 min
Add coconut cut off heat
