Vadagam puli kuzhambu By

Ingredients

  • Vadagam [urad dal & onion] – 3 tbsp
  • Sambar onion – 4 [finely chopped]
  • Dry red chilli - 1
  • Curry leaves – 1 spring
  • Mustard seeds- ½ tbsp
  • Jaggery – 1 tbsp [Grated]
  • Tamarind water – ½ cup [light]
  • Bengal gram – ½ tsp
  • Urad dal – ½ tsp
  • Turmeric powder – ¼ tsp
  • Red chilli powder – 4 tsp
  • Garlic – 2 cloves [mashed]
  • Oil – 1 tbsp
  • Oil for deep frying
  • Salt to taste
  • Water as needed

Method

  • Heat enough oil in a pan add urad dal vadagam deep fry till crisp.
  • Soak tamarind for 5 min then squeeze & extract water
  • Heat oil in pan add mustard & let it splutter
  • Add Bengal gram, urad dal, curry leaves, garlic & onion sauté.
  • Add tamarind water, turmeric powder & red chilli powder mix well & let it boil.
  • Finally add jaggery & let it boil for a min then add fried vadagam & cut off heat
  • Serve hot with rice
