Moong dal rasam | Pasi paruppu rasam-How to make-Step by step photos

Ingredients
- Moong dal – 2 tbsp
- Tomato –2
- Tamarind - 1/2 inch piece
- Garlic – 3 cloves [mashed]
- Dry red chilli – ½
- Turmeric powder – ¼ tsp
- Curry leaves – 1 spring
- Coriander leaves – 2 springs [chopped]
- Asafetida a pinch
- Salt to taste
- Oil – 1 tbsp
- Water as needed
Roasting & grinding Ingredients
- Coriander seeds- 1/2 tbsp
- Cumin seeds – 1 tbsp
- Peppercorns - 5
- Dry roast then grind to fine or coarse powder
Method
- Wash and boil moong dal & tomato for 25 min till soft.
- Add tamarind & turmeric boil for 3 min. Then mash well.
- Heat oil in a pan then add mustard seeds.
- Once it’s spluttered then add garlic sauté.
- Then add asafoetida, dry red chilli and curry leaves.
- Add boiled moong dal mixture mix well.
- Add salt, freshly ground powder mix well & let it boil for 3 min.
- Add coriander leaves serve hot with rice.

Boil moong dal & tomato
Add turmeric powder, let it boil till soft
Add tamarind, boil for 2 min then cut off heat, mash well and keep it aside
Dry roast coriander, cumin and pepper the grind to coarse powder
Heat oil, add mustard seeds
Add garlic, curry leaves
Add asafoetida
Add moong dal tomato mixture
Add salt
Add ground powder
Mix well
Let it boil for 3 min
Now its ready, cut off heat
Add coriander leaves
Moong dal rasam ready, serve hot with rice
