Chow chow Avial | Seema kathirikai Aviyal for adai-How to make step by step photos

Ingredients
- Chow chow[Seema kathirikai, chayote squash] – 1 cup [Cut into cubes]
- Red chilli powder - 1/2 tsp
- Turmeric powder – ¼ tsp
- Curd - 2 tbsp
- Salt to taste
- Water as needed
For grinding
- Coconut – 4 tbsp
- Cumin seeds – 1 tbsp
- Ginger - 1 tbsp
- Dry red chilli - 1
- Put above ingredients in a mixer jar grind to fine or coasre paste
For seasoning
- Coconut Oil – 2 tbsp
- Mustard seeds - 1 tbsp
- Curry leaves - 1 spring
- Asafoetida- 1/4 tsp
Method
- Boil chow chow with salt, red chilli powder & turmeric powder till soft.
- Add ground coconut mixture let it boil
- Add curd mix well, let it boil for 3 min.
- For seasoning:- Heat oil in a pan then add mustard seeds, curry leaves & asafoetida
- Add seasoned ingredients to chow chow mixture mix well.
- Once its ready, cut off heat & serve hot with paruppu adai
For avial variations
- You can add drumstick, flat lima bean, tomato, avarakkai, beans, radish, brinjal, egg plant, peerkangai[ridge gourd], raw banana, yellow pumpkin, kovakkai, Tindora...
How to make Chow chow avial-Step by step photos
Boil chow chow with salt, turmeric & red chilli powder
In a blender add coconut, dry red chilli, ginger, cumin seeds, coarsely grind
Add coconut mixture
For seasoning:- Heat 2 tbsp oil, add mustard, curry leaevs, asafoetida
Add seasoned ingredients
Let it boil for 2 min
