Broken red rice lemon upma | Sigappu arisi elumichai upma-Quick indian breakfast recipe

Ingredients
- Broken red rice [Kerala matta rice, Sigappu arisi] – 2 cup
- Onion – 1 [sliced or chopped]
- Carrot – ½ cup [cut into cubes]
- Coconut – 3 tbsp [Thinly sliced & chopped]
- Green chilli – 1 [slit or chopped]
- Ginger – 1 tbsp [finely chopped]
- Coriander leaves – 2 springs [chopped]
- Curry leaves – 1 spring
- Mustard seeds – 1 tbsp
- Bengal gram – 1 tbsp
- Urad dal – 1 tbsp
- Lemon juice – 2 tbsp
- Oil – 2 tbsp
- Salt to taste
- Water as needed [Apr. 4 cups]
Method
- Wash & soak broken red rice for 10 min. Then drain water. [optional]
- Heat oil in a pressure cooker add mustard seeds& let it splutter.
- Then add Bengal gram, urad dal sauté gently.
- Add onion sauté well then add ginger, green chilli, & curry leaves.
- Add carrot & coconut sauté well.
- Add water and salt mix well & let it boil.
- Then add broken red rice mix well, cover it and cook for 4 whistle.
- Then add coriander leaves & lemon juice mix well and serve hot with coconut chutney, pickle or chips.
