How to make No-Fry suzhiyam video
Ingredients
- Bengal Gram[Chana dal, Kadalai paruppu]- 1 cup
- Jaggery [vellam]- 3/4 cup to 1 cup
- Cardamom powder - 1 tbsp
- Ghee - 2 tbsp
- Water as needed
- Idli batter - 1/4 cup
Preparation
- Dry roast bengal gram till light brown
- Wash bengal gram 2 to 3 times, soak it for 2 hours
- Then cook till soft
- Drain excess water , finely grind without water.
- Heat pan add jaggery & 1/4 cup water cook till syrup consistency.
- Heat pan add ghee, bengal gram mixture, jaggery syrup cook for 5 min
- Add cardamom powder & roasted coconut, cut off heat.
- Divide them into equal portions, Then make equal size balls[ladoo] out of it.
- Heat paniyaram / appam pan, Add 1 tbsp oil & ghee, dip chana dal balls in idli batter place it in appam cavity, cook till crisp on both sides.
- Then serve with tea or coffee
Tip
- You can use wheat flour batter:-Wheat flour, corn flour, pinch of salt & water
- You can use simple maida batter also.
- You can use deep fry method also.
- You can use moong dal, peanuts, carrot halwa balls, rava halwa balls& red kidney beans for stuffing.
- Instead of Jaggery brown sugar or white sugar can be used.
- If you dont have time, skip soaking process & directly cook in pressure cooker.
- You can add any almond powder, cahew powder etc.
- You can use desiccated coconut.
- You can use paneer, mava, khova, milk cake or oreos in this stuffing.
- Deep fry method: In case chana dal stuffing is too loose, it will separate in oil but in appam pan method 100 % perfect.
How to make suzhiyam[No fry]-Step by step photos
Take 1 cup chana dal
Dry roast till light brown
Cut off heat
Wash 2 to 3 times
Soak it for 2 to 3 times
Boil till soft
Cut off heat
Drain completely
Let it cool
Finely grind
Heat jaggery and 1/4 cup water
Boil for 3 min
Cut off heat, Keep it aside
Heat pan add coconut
Dry roast for 3 min
Heat pan, add grouind chana dal
Strain without impurities
Mix well
Add caradamom powder
Divide the portion into equal size balls
Take idli batter/ dosa batter
Dip balls in idli batter
Remove excess batter
Heat 1 tbsp ghee and oil, place suzhiyam, cook till crisp and golden brown both sides
Flip over cook
Now itsready, cut off heat
No deep fry suzhiyam ready
