Simple green gram curry By

Cuisine Style: Tamil Nadu, South India | Cooking Time: 10 minutes | To Serve: 4 | Take with: Idli, Dosa, Rice, Chapathi, puttu | Type :Gravy, sambar, kulambu, curry, masala.


  • Green gram [pachai payaru] – ½ cup
  • Shallots [Sambar onion] -5
  • Green chilli – 1 [sliced]
  • Curry leaves – 1 spring
  • Turmeric powder – ¼ tsp
  • Red chilli powder – 1 tsp
  • Mustard seeds – ½ tbsp
  • Urad dal and Bengal gram – 1 tbsp
  • Salt to taste
  • Oil – 2 tbsp
  • Water as needed


  • Boil green gram in cooker for 4 whistles
  • Heat pan with oil add mustard seeds. Once it’s spluttered add Bengal gram, urad dal and onion sauté till soft [translucent].
  • Add green chilli and curry leaves.
  • Add turmeric powder and red chilli powder. Then add boiled green gram mix well & let it boil then add salt and cut off heat. Serve hot with rice, puttu, idli
