  • Green gram [pachai payaru, matki dal] – 1 cup
  • Onion – 1 [sliced]
  • Garlic – 1 clove [grated]
  • Green chilli – 1 [slit]
  • Curry leaves – 1 spring
  • Coriander leaves – 1 tbsp [chopped]
  • Red chilli powder – ½ tbsp
  • Turmeric powder – ¼ tsp
  • Mustard seeds – 1 tbsp
  • Cumin, coriander & Pepper powder - 1 tsp
  • Oil – 2 tbsp
  • Asafoetida a pinch – 2 tbsp
  • Salt to taste
  • Water as needed


  • Dry roast green gram then wash.
  • Heat pressure cooker add green gram, onion, garlic, green chilli, turmeric powder, red chilli powder, cumin coriander pepper powder, mix well
  • Then cover lid & pressure cook for 4 whistles.
  • Heat 1 tbsp oil in a pan, add mustard, asafoetida, curry leaves fry.
  • Add seasoned ingredients to the pressure cooked green gram, salt mix well.
  • Then add coriander leaves, serve hot with rice.


  • You can add toamto & vegetables
