Ingredients

  • Kolam rice -2 cups
  • Water – 6 cups [open pan method], Water - 5 cups [in pressure cooker]

Preparation Method 1-open pan method

  • Wash and soak the rice for 30 min
  • Heat pan add 6 cups of water, let it boil
  • Once its boiled add soaked kolam rice.
  • Cook till soft.
  • Oce its ready, cut off heat, cover lid & leave it for 5 min.
  • Then serve hot with any gravy.

Tip

  • If it complete cooks before filter the excess water the rice becomes sticky.
  • Use the basmati rice cooked water for making kanji.
  • Use the filtered water to make rice Kanji or clear soup.

Preparation Method 2-Pressure Cooker method

  • Wash and soak the rice for 15 min. Then drain water
  • In a pressure cooker put 2 cup rice, 5 cups of water mix gently then cook for 3 whistles.
