Ingredients

  • Toor dal - 1 cup
  • Onion - 1 [finely chopped]
  • Tomato - 1 [finely chopped]
  • Ginger -1 tbsp [finely chopped]
  • Garlic -1 tbsp [finley chopped]
  • Dry red chilli - 1
  • Green chilli - 1 [slit]
  • Coriander leaves - 2 springs [chopped]
  • Curry leaves – 1 spring
  • Asafetida - ¼ tsp
  • Turmeric powder - ¼ tsp
  • Red chilli powder - ½ tsp
  • Mustard seeds - 1 tbsp
  • Cumin seeds - ½ tbsp
  • Salt to taste
  • Oil – 2 tbsp
  • Water as needed

Preparation

  • Wash toor dal.
  • Heat pressure cook add toor dal, turmeric powder & enough water cover it & cook for 4 whistles.
  • Heat oil in a pan add mustard seeds & let it splutter then add cumin seeds, & asafetida.
  • Add onion sauté till soft then add ginger, garlic, green chilli, curry leaves & dry red chilli sauté.
  • Add tomato, turmeric powder, & red chilli powder sauté till soft then add boiled toor dal and salt mix well & let it boil.
  • When boiling, add chopped coriander leaves & serve hot with rice.
