How to make Karunai kizhangu masiyal video
Ingredients
- Karunai kizhangu – ¼ kg or 6
- Tamarind water –1/4 cup or tamarind paste – 2 tbsp
- Curry leaves – 2 springs
- Garlic - 3 cloves
- Onion - 1 [chopped] or small onion - 4 to 5
- Turmeric powder – 1/4 tsp
- Red chilli powder - 1 tsp
- Coriander powder - 1 tsp
- Mustard seeds – 1 tsp
- Urad dal – 2 tsp
- Bengal gram – 2 tbsp
- Asafoetida [Hing, perungayam]- 1/4 tsp
- Salt to taste
- Gingelly Oil [Sesame oil]– 3 tbsp
- Water as needed
Preparation
- Wash & soak karunai kilangu in turmeric, salt & tamarind added water for 2 hours.
- Drain water, put it in a pressure cooker, add water, salt, turmeric powder, cook for 1 whistles
- Then drain water, peel off skin, slice
- Heat oil in a pan add mustard seeds, let it splutter.
- Add urad dal, chana dal, asafoetida, curry leaves, & garlic
- Add karunai kilangu, salt, chilli powder & turmeric powder sauté till soft.
- Add tamarind water, mix well, then let it boil for 5 min
- Add water if required & let it boil & thickens.
- Once its ready, cut off heat, Serve hot with rice / millets /pongal / upma.

Karunai kizhangu
Three yam varieties
In a bowl add sea salt & water
Add turmeric powder
Add tamarind, mix well
Add washed pidi karunai
Mix well, leave it for 2 hours
Put it in a pressure cooker
Cover lid, cook for 1 whistles
After, 1 whistle, remove steam, drain water
Peel off the skin
NOw its ready
Slice
Heat 2 tbsp oil, add mustard, urad dal
Add asafoetida
Add garlic, curry leaves
Add red chilli powder
Add turmeric powder, coriander powder
Add pidi karunai kilangu
Saute for 3 min
Salt to taste
Add tamarind water
Mix well
Add water if required
Boil for 5 min
now its ready, cut off heat
Delicious and healthy karunai kilangu masiyal ready
Serve hot with millets / rice
