Ingredients

  • Ragi flour (kezhvaragu maavu, finger millet powder)-1 cup
  • Moong dal – ¼ cup or 4 tbsp
  • Grated Coconut- ½ cup
  • Onion – 1 [finely chopped]
  • Ginger – 1 tbsp [finely chopped]
  • Green chilli – 1 [finely chopped]
  • Coriander leaves – 1 spring [chopped]
  • Curry leaves – 2 springs [chopped]
  • Mustard seeds – 1 tbsp
  • Urad dal – 1 tbsp
  • Bengal gram – 1 tbsp
  • Salt to taste
  • Oil – 2 tbsp
  • Water as needed

Preparation

  • In a bowl add ragi flour, salt, coconut mix well.
  • Seasoning: heat oil in a pan add mustard seeds & let it splutter. Then add Bengal gram, urad dal, onion sauté till soft.
  • Add ginger, green chilli, moong dal & curry leaves sauté. Then cut off heat.
  • Add seasoned ingredients, & coriander leaves in ragi flour mixture, sprinkle warm water, mix well & make soft dough.
  • Make a lemon size balls from prepared ragi dough.
  • Then steam it for 10 minutes in a steamer (idli cooker or idli koppar) & serve hot with tomato tamarind chutney.
