Nylon Sago Upma

Ingredients

  • Nylon Sabudhana [Sago] - 1 cup [Soak sago for 2 hours then drain extra water]
  • Carrot [grated] - 1 tbsp
  • Tomato - 1 [chopped]
  • Onion – 1 [chopped]
  • Green chilli - 1[chopped]
  • Ginger - ½ tbsp [finely chopped]
  • Curry leaves – 1 spring
  • Coriander leaves– 2 springs [finely chopped]
  • Coconut - 1 tbsp [Grated]
  • Turmeric powder - ¼ tbsp
  • Mustard seeds - 1 tbsp
  • Urad dal - ½ tbsp
  • Bengal gram - ½ tbsp
  • Asafetida - a pinch
  • Lemon juice - ½ tbsp
  • Salt - to taste
  • Oil - 2 tbsp
  • Water as needed

Preparation

  • Heat oil in a pan, add mustard seeds. Once it’s spluttered add Bengal gram, urad dal sauté gently then add onion sauté till light brown then add asafetida.
  • Add ginger, green chilli & curry leaves sauté gently then add turmeric powder and tomato sauté for 2 min.
  • Add grated coconut & carrot sauté for 1 min then add sabhudana, sprinkle salt sauté gently till sabhudana changes to transparent.
  • Once it’s cooked cut off heat then sprinkle lemon juice & coriander leaves serve hot.

Note

  • This can be prepared without vegetable

Tip

  • Use 1 tbsp of ghee with oil for added aroma
