Vazhaipoo poriyal recipe | Banana flower stir fry

Ingredients

  • Vazhaipoo [banana flower] – 1
  • Coconut – ¼ cup [grated]
  • Onion – 1 [sliced]
  • Green chilli - 1
  • Curry leaves – 1 spring
  • Turmeric powder – ¼ tsp
  • Red chilli powder – ¼ tsp
  • Corainder powder – ½ tbsp
  • Mustard seeds – 1 tbsp
  • Bengal gram – 1 tbsp
  • Urad dal – 1 tbsp
  • Jaggery – ½ tbsp
  • Oil – 2 tbsp
  • Salt to taste
  • Water as needed

Method

  • Peel off the petals. And pluck the white flowers. Then hold flower bunch & rub the tip with other hand now you can see the stamens and stigma. Just cut the stigma. Now chop and put it in turmeric powder mixed water.
  • Repeat the procedure for all flowers. Then drain excess water and boil for 7 min.
  • Heat pan with oil add mustard, Bengal gram and urad dal.
  • Add onion sauté till soft. Then add green chilli & curry leaves.
  • Add 2 tbsp coconut, sauté.
  • Add banana flower and salt sauté well. Then add jaggery and remaining coconut mix well. Cut off heat and serve hot with rice.
