Tomato bath recipe


Cuisine Style: Karnataka | Cooking Time: 15 minutes | To Serve: 2 | Take with: Raita, pickles | Type: Breakfast, Lunch or Dinner

Ingredients

  • Basmati rice – 2 cup
  • Water – 2 ½ cup
  • Tomato – 4 [chopped]
  • Onion – 1 [sliced]
  • Green chilli – 1 [slit]
  • Mint leaves - 6
  • Turmeric powder – ¼ tsp
  • Red chilli powder – ½ tsp
  • Garam masala powder – ½ tsp
  • Cardamom – 3
  • Cloves -3
  • Cinnamon – 1
  • Bay leaves – 1
  • Star anise -1/2
  • Fennel seeds – 1 tbsp
  • Oil – 2 tbsp
  • Butter – 1 inch cube
  • Salt to taste

For grinding

  • Mint leaves – 1 cup
  • Green chilli – ½
  • Garlic – 4 cloves
  • Ginger – 1 tbsp [chopped]
  • Put all ingredients in mixer jar then grind to fine paste with 3 tbsp of water.

Method

  • Heat oil and butter in a pan then add cardamom, cloves, cinnamon, bay leaves, star anise, cashew nuts and fennel seeds then add onion sauté till soft.
  • Add dry red chilli, green chilli and tomato sauté till soft. Then add ground paste mix well.
  • Add turmeric powder, red chilli powder and garam masala powder mix well.
  • Add water and salt mix well& let it boil.
  • When boiling add basmati rice, butter cover it & cook for 4 whistles. Garnish with mint leaves then serve hot with raita
