Simple poha upma

Ingredients

  • Poha[Pohe, Avul, Flattened rice, Aval] – 1 cup
  • Onion – 1 [sliced or chopped]
  • Ginger – 1 tbsp [finely chopped]
  • Green chilli – 1 [slit]
  • Curry leaves – 1 spring
  • Coriander leaves – 2 springs [chopped]
  • Mustard seeds – 1 tbsp
  • Bengal gram – 1 tbsp
  • Urad dal – 1 tbsp
  • Sev [Plain Sev, omapodi] – 3 tbsp [for garnish]
  • Salt to taste
  • Oil – 2 tbsp

Method

  • Wash smooth Aval and drain water. Don’t soak aval.
  • Heat oil in a pan then add mustard seed & let it splutter. Add Bengal gram & urad dal.
  • Then add onion sauté well then add ginger, green chilli & curry leaves.
  • Add aval and salt then mix well. Then add chopped coriander leaves.
  • Cut off heat, sprinkle sev & serve hot with pickle, chips, coconut chutney.
