Pani varagu paruppu sadam

Ingredients

  • Panivaragu [Proso millet]– 1 ½ cup
  • Toor dal [Thuvaramparuppu] – ½ cup
  • Sambar onion[Shallots] - 7
  • Cumin seeds – ½ tbsp
  • Garlic – 2 cloves
  • Turmeric powder – ¼ tsp
  • Water – 4 ¼ cups
  • Oil - 1 tbsp

For Seasoning

  • Mustard seeds – 1 tbsp
  • Cumin seeds – ½ tbsp
  • Dry red chilli - 3
  • Curry leaves – 1 spring
  • Bengal gram – ½ tbsp
  • Urad dal – ½ tbsp
  • Salt to taste
  • Gingelly Oil – 1 tbsp

Method

  • Wash toor dal, & Pani varagu.
  • Add Pani varagu, toor dal, cumin seeds, garlic, sambar onion, turmeric powder & 4 cups of water in a pressure cooker then cover lid & cook for 4 whistles.
  • For seasoning:- Heat oil in a pan add mustard seeds, cumin seeds, Bengal, gram, urad dal, dry red chilli and curry leaves.
  • Add seasoned ingredients to the cooked panivaragu mixture and add salt mix well.
  • Finally pour 1 tbsp of gingelly oil mix well.
  • Serve hot with pickle.
