Cuisine Style: India | Preparation & Cooking Time: 20 min | To Serve: 4 | Type: Sweet, dessert, diwali special sweet, holi, pongal

Ingredients

  • Gram flour [Besan, kadalai maavu] – 1 cup
  • Sugar – 2 cups
  • Water – ½ to ¾ cup
  • Ghee – 1 ¼ cup [melted]
  • Coconut oil - 2 tbsp
  • Turmeric powder - ¼ tsp

Preparation Method-1 [Authentic karnataka style]

  • Heat 1 tbsp of ghee in a pan add gram flour roast till you get nice aroma.
  • Then sieve it to avoid lumps.
  • Grease tray with ghee, keep it aside
  • Heat pan add sugar and water mix well & let it boil till one string consistency on medium flame.
  • Then sprinkle gram flour stir well without lumps. Then add turmeric powder.
  • Add ghee & coconut oil little by little stir continuously on low flame till the mixture doesn’t stick, bubbles forming & slippery on the pan.
  • Then cut off heat & immediately transfer to the ghee greased tray.
  • Leave it for 5 min then cut into desired shapes when its is warm & store in an airtight container.

Preparation Method-2 [for beginners]

  • Heat 1 tbsp of ghee in a pan add gram flour roast till you get nice aroma.
  • Then sieve it to avoid lumps.
  • In a bowl add sieved gram flour and melted ghee then mix well & make it watery consistency batter(Not too much watery).
  • Heat pan add sugar and water mix well & let it boil till one string consistency on medium flame.
  • Then pour gram flour mixture stir well.
  • Add ghee little by little stir continuously on low flame till the mixture doesn’t stick & slippery on the pan.
  • Then cut off heat & immediately transfer to the ghee greased tray.
  • Leave it for 10 min then cut into desired shapes & store in an airtight container.
